Volunteer

We are grateful to the many volunteers past and present who make the success of Huron House Boys’ Home possible.

Volunteers play a critical role in many areas, including:

  • Board of Directors
  • Foundation Board of Directors
  • Run/Walk/Skate/Bike, pre-event organizing and event day
  • Men Who Cook, pre-event organizing and event day
  • Bingo volunteers
  • Special fundraising projects
  • Special projects within Huron House Boys’ Home

If you have skills and energy you would like to share with us, please contact us at 519-869-4000 or [email protected].  Although there is little opportunity for working directly with the boys, there are many ways you can be involved, make a difference and gain valuable experience.

Current Volunteer Needs

Bingo Volunteers

Time Commitment: One 2-hour shift approximately every 3 months. You pick what works best for you from the available options we are assigned. Times range from 10am-12am, 7 days a week.
Tasks: Currently, volunteers assist with welcoming and screening bingo participants. Once further restrictions are lifted, duties include keeping the bingo hall clean and tidy and assisting staff as needed.
Training/requirements: Currently none, volunteers can start right away. Once it is able to be held again, each new volunteer will be required to attend one evening training session with the Sarnia Charitable Gaming Association.
Additional info: We are assigned two 2-hour shifts each month, which right now have one volunteer each, but once operations are back to normal, will be two volunteers per shift. We will provide a Huron House branded shirt to wear (a requirement for all bingo volunteers).

Men Who Cook Committee

Time Commitment: One evening meeting each month, November- March, plus additional time needed on your own schedule to complete any assigned tasks, set-up the morning of the event, and attending the event on March 5, 2022. We would prefer that anyone joining be interested in continuing on the committee in future years.
Tasks: Can vary based on interests and experience, but we are especially looking for members who can support with soliciting items for our online auction, and can coordinate and make arrangements with our décor provider.
Additional info: More details about the event.

Run/Walk/Skate/Bike Committee

Time Commitment: One evening meeting each month from January-June, plus additional time needed on your own schedule to complete any assigned tasks, set-up on the weekend of the event, and attending the event on June 19, 2022 (Father’s Day). We would prefer that anyone joining be interested in continuing on the committee in future years.
Tasks: Can vary based on interests and experience, but we are especially looking for members who can support by heading the organization of our pancake and sausage breakfast.
Additional info: More details about the event.
